General Information
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Plant Protection at Ondokuz Mayıs University, Faculty of Agriculture, was established in 1984. It admitted its first undergraduate students in the 1992–1993 academic year and graduated its first cohort in 1996. The Department of Plant Protection consists of two divisions: Entomology and Plant Pathology. Within these divisions, Entomology covers the fields of Nematology, Acarology, and General Entomology, while Plant Pathology includes Mycology, Herbology, Virology, and Bacteriology.
Currently, the Department of Plant Protection has 11 faculty members and 5 research assistants. The department houses Acarology, Entomology, Nematology, Bacteriology, Herbology, Mycology, and Virology laboratories; two climate-controlled rooms; two controlled greenhouses with six compartments; a seminar hall; and an insect collection storage unit. In addition to the undergraduate program, master’s and doctoral programs are also offered.
Graduates of the Plant Protection Undergraduate Program can find employment in both public and private sector institutions. They may work in various units of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry—such as Provincial and District Directorates of Agriculture, Plant Quarantine Directorates, Research Institutes, and Departments of Plant Protection within Faculties of Agriculture—as well as in national and international companies operating in the agricultural sector (including those engaged in plant protection products, seed production, agricultural services, and environmental health applications).
